Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
