Exploring a Unique Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found a variety of interesting independent titles. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a protagonist that is truly a piece of poop trying to make its way to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is simple: just use a single jump button. Across 150 stages, battle mini-bosses and access a store to purchase outfits for your poop character.
Execute your movements carefully, since one error requires restarting the level. Bounce on floating orbs to propel your character higher, cross fragile platforms, and activate buttons to unlock hidden paths. Gather currency for buying challenging game content where things ramps up.
In terms of design, the demo shows off neon level designs and an amazing music score. Its minimalist graphics with moving abstract forms may remind gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's tough to think of similar titles where you control a coiled turd, gaming often featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already received impressive recognition, including being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready currently on Steam, with the final release set to launch on Steam in the fall.
