Harvard ex-president Summers Leaves from OpenAI Board
Ex-Treasury chief Lawrence Summers is departing from the governing body at the ChatGPT creator, just several days after a series of electronic messages between him and deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein became widely known.
The economist stated in a statement that he was "grateful for the opportunity to have served, optimistic about the promise of the company, and look forward following their advancement".
Summers, who formerly presided over the prestigious university, declared on recently that he would be withdrawing from public responsibilities due to his association with Epstein.

The recently released communications demonstrated that Summers communicated with the financier until the eve of the financier's 2019 arrest for accused human trafficking of underage individuals.
In a separate statement, the artificial intelligence company said it understood Summers' choice to step down.
"We appreciate his numerous inputs and the viewpoint he provided to the governing body," OpenAI remarked.
Political Context
This news follows after the entire Congress of the US legislature voted on Tuesday to pass a bill that would compel the federal prosecutors to make public its documents on the case.
The measure will afterward proceed to the desk of US President Donald Trump for endorsement. Trump has indicated he plans to endorse the measure, after modifying his position on the issue following objections from his supporters.

A batch of Epstein-connected correspondence disclosed by the legislative panel recently included several well-known personalities in the billionaire's previous network, without indicating any illegal behavior by those figures.
The messages indicated that the professor and Epstein dined together frequently, with Epstein often attempting to link the academic to influential global figures.

After the messages were shared with the public, he stated he took "full responsibility for my misguided choice to continue communicating with the financier".
He further stated that he wanted "to reestablish trust and repair relationships with the persons closest to me".

The professor served in leadership roles under Democratic administrations; serving as economic leader under President Clinton, and as head of the economic advisory body under President Obama.
He presided over the institution from the early 2000s and continues to be a professor there. When stating his withdrawal from public roles recently on this week, he indicated he would maintain his teaching commitments.

Following his declaration on earlier this week, the Center for American Progress, a liberal policy institute in DC where the professor was a senior fellow, confirmed that he was ceased to be connected with the organization.
