Learners Share Concerns That AI Is Undermining Their Learning Capabilities, Research Finds
Based on latest investigation, pupils are voicing concerns that using AI is negatively impacting their ability to engage academically. A significant number state it renders schoolwork “effortless”, while others argue it hinders their creativity and prevents them from developing fresh abilities.
Widespread Utilization of AI Among Students
A study looking at the utilization of AI in British learning centers revealed that only 2% of learners aged 13 and 18 stated they did not use AI for their schoolwork, while 80% indicated they frequently used it.
Negative Effect on Abilities
Regardless of artificial intelligence's widespread use, 62% of the pupils reported it has had a negative impact on their skills and growth at their educational institution. One in four of the students affirmed that AI “enables me to obtain answers with minimal personal effort”.
A further 12% reported AI “restricts my imaginative processes”, while equivalent percentages reported they were less inclined to address issues or write creatively.
Sophisticated Understanding By Young People
A professional in AI technology remarked that the investigation was a pioneering effort to look at how students in the Britain were using AI into their academic pursuits.

One study assessed cognitive signals while composition tasks among learners using AI models and concluded: “The outcomes highlight worries regarding the enduring academic consequences of dependency on AI and emphasize the necessity for further exploration of its educational impact.”
Almost 50% of the numerous respondents polled reported they were worried their peers were “secretly using AI” for schoolwork without their educators being able to identify it.
Request for Instruction and Constructive Aspects
Numerous respondents indicated that they wanted more assistance from educators for the correct use of artificial intelligence and in evaluating whether its output was trustworthy. A project designed to aiding teachers with AI education is being launched.

Just 31% indicated they didn’t think utilizing AI had a negative impact on any of their skills. But, the bulk of students said using artificial intelligence assisted them develop additional competencies, including 18% who indicated it assisted them understand problems, and 15% who stated it aided them generate “original and superior” thoughts.

When asked to elaborate, a 15-year-old girl said: “I’ve gained a better grasp of math concepts, and the technology aids in resolving challenging queries.”
